The Kel-Azaani Republic confirmed yesterday that its Democratic Crusader fleets will continue to bombard the recently liberated planet of Vurax until voter turnout improves.

Elections have been underway for almost six months now following the Kel-Azaani’s decisive victory over the autocratic Vurax regime, which collapsed within hours of the opening salvo.

However, voter turnout on Vurax has remained stubbornly low at 1%, despite intensive Kel-Azaani bombardment intended to support the democratic transition process.

“We are disappointed that the Vuraxi are not taking advantage of the three remaining structurally intact underground bunkers that are doubling as temporary polling stations,” Kel-Azaan High Commissioner Talren Rexen told reporters during a press briefing. “For that reason we will continue to target civilian infrastructure to serve as a reminder of how fragile democracy can be.”

Surviving local officials in the newly renamed Free Vurax Republic expressed gratitude for the intervention but have asked for a short pause in bombardment to allow medical treatment for several candidates after a strike hit the makeshift election headquarters operating out of an underground sewer.

“I think voters are just not impressed by what local political parties are offering,” a weary and bloodied Vurax governor, Galgor, told Xenonion while reading from a tattered script. “If we fielded a pro Kel-Azaani candidate, I think public opinion would change.”

Kel-Azaani officials have warned they are unlikely to leave Vurax until it is declared fully democratically stable, a process which may take decades until the last remaining strategic resources have been fully extracted, refined and traded with trusted Kel-Azaani corporate partners.
