The Scyldari Confederacy has confirmed that its newly released vassal has debuted with the ugliest flag you’ve ever seen.

The garish banner, featuring a melting skull icon superimposed on two clashing bright colors arranged in an irregular pattern, was unveiled moments after the pacifist Dorbolan species achieved partial independence.

Both Scyldari and Dorbolan officials have denied any involvement in the flag’s creation. “The design was not approved by any committee, ministry, or sentient being with visual perception,” one Scyldari official told Xenonion. “It just… appeared.”

Xeno-cultural experts have praised the flag’s aggressive hot pink and mint colour palette as avant-garde design. “Pacifists adopting iconography associated with violence subverts our expectations so much it causes us to stop and think about the horrors of war,” curator Morak Pint told Xenonion. “Put simply, the flag is so ugly and stupid it’s actually beautiful and clever.”

The Dorbolan government has however sought to downplay the flag’s cultural significance, issuing a mandate ordering all government buildings to burn the flag in the hope that darkening and charring it might make it more palatable.

In the meantime, attempts to change the flag to something more aesthetically pleasing have failed, with no clear technical, legal, or metaphysical mechanism available to the Dorbolan beyond waiting a further twenty years to be reintegrated into the Scyldari Confederacy and released as vassals again, in the hope that a better flag appears.
